Discover the 10 favorite dishes of the French in 2023!

1. Chicken-fries

With its crispy skin and delicious fries, Sunday's chicken-fries topped the ranking of the favorite dishes of the French. The chicken is usually roasted: it can be roasted in the oven at home but many French people like to buy the roasted chicken at the market on Sunday morning. A treat!

2. Raclette

Raclette is a Swiss cheese made from raw cow's milk, but it also refers to a dish where the cheese is melted and eaten with potatoes and charcuterie. In traditional restaurants, the cheese is melted whole over a source of heat. But there is also a raclette machine that many French people have at home. It is very convivial: the machine is placed in the middle of the table and each person has a 'poêlon' (a small frying pan) in which they put a slice of cheese. The "poêlon" is then put in the heated machine. When the cheese is melted, it is ready to be eaten with boiled potatoes and charcuterie. It is usually accompanied by raw vegetables (salad, tomatoes, carrots...), pickles... Everything goes well with raclette!

3. Pizza

Yes, the French also love Italian dishes! Their favorite is the four cheese pizza.

4. Couscous

The French love to travel through their plates since couscous is a dish originally from the Maghreb. It is made of wheat semolina, accompanied by meat (chicken, beef, lamb...) and stewed vegetables.

5. Bœuf bourguignon

THE traditional French dish! It consists of pieces of beef stewed in a sauce made from Burgundy wine, mushrooms, carrots and bacon. It is often served with potatoes.

6. Blanquette

Another traditional recipe of French cuisine: blanquette is a dish made with veal (sometimes turkey) cooked in a broth with carrots, mushrooms, leeks bound with cream and butter. Blanquette is usually served with rice.

7. Quiche lorraine

The quiche lorraine is a variant of quiche, originating from the region of Lorraine (in Eastern France). It is made of a puff pastry or shortcrust pastry, in which a mix of eggs and bacon is cooked. It is often served as an appetizer or main course, accompanied by a salad.

8. La paella

Another foreign dish that the French love! Originating from Spain, paella (pronounced /paéla/ 🤭) is very popular on the tables of the French. It is a dish based on saffron rice, garnished with minced chicken, prawns, chorizo, mussels and various vegetables.

9. Choucroute

Choucroute is a dish originating from Alsace (in Eastern France) made with fermented cabbage accompanied by sausages and potatoes.

10. Le cassoulet

Cassoulet is a staple of Southwestern France. It is prepared with dried beans and meat (usually duck and pork). It is related to "feijoada" (in Portugal and Brazil), "cachupa" (in Cape Verde) or "fabada asturiana" (in Spain).
